Carson R. Stayton, 79, died at his home just southeast of the village, Wednesday morning, Oct. 22, 1941, of liver trouble and complications.

Mr. Stayton was born July 4, 1862, in Richland County. He received his education in the schools of that county, and there on March 30, 1893, he was married to Mary Jane Janney. They lived on a farm there until 1915 when the family moved to their present home near Loyal.

In his younger days Mr. Stayton was interested in community affairs and served as an officer in various activities. His whole life was lived on farms, and he was especially interested in the care of bees. He and his family were active members of the United Brethren church in Richland Center. There being no such denomination in Loyal when they moved to this vicinity, they transferred their assistance and support to the Methodist church.

He is survived by a son Earnest, who lives on the home place, three daughters, Mrs. Archie (Erma) Ewing, Loganville; Mrs. William (Bessie) Schaeffner, Bonner’s Ferry, Idaho; Mrs. Paul (Margaret) Storm, Richland Center; a brother, William Stayton, a sister, Miss Elizabeth Stayton, both of Richland Center, and 18 grandchildren. His wife preceded him in death in 1922.

Following a short service at the house funeral services were held in the Methodist church, at 2 P.M. Friday with the Rev. O. Jewell officiating. Mrs. Ray Prior and R. B. Colby sang with Mrs. Jewell accompanying. Pall bearers were Ralph Philpott, Ed. Haslow, Wm. Fink, George Fricke, Ed. Schaeffner, and Gilbert Krueger. The flowers were in charge of Mrs. George Fricke, Mrs. Ed. Haslow, Mrs. Fred Clouse, Mrs. Wm. Fink, Mrs. Edgar Warner, and Mrs. L. G. Anderson. Mrs., Edgar Warner and son of Nekoosa came to attend the services.

Following the services Friday the body was taken to Richland Center where services were held on Saturday in the Presbyterian Church at Fancy Creek, near Richland Center and burial was beside his wife in the church cemetery.

Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Stayton and children were accompanied to Richland Center by Fred Clouse and Perl Catlin and served as pall bearers there, others being George Clark, Melvin Jacobson, Alfred Sharp, and Wm. Aken.

Besides the relatives from Loyal and Richland Center others there were Mr. and Mrs. Archie Ewing, Loganville, and the Misses Luella and Alvira Stayton, Chicago. Vern Olson of Fort Custer also attended.
