Wicker, Adelaide (77th Birthday - 7 Jan. 1909)

On January 22d, Mrs. A. Vandercook was 73 years old, and a number of her lady friends loaded themselves with eatables and made for her new residence, taking and holding possession of the same until long after the hour when they ought to be home. The next night another bunch of ladies did the same. Mrs. Vandercook says it carried her back to the days when Colby was in her fancy and our citizens were like one big family at all doings.

The next one to find herself surrounded by a large gathering of lady friends, was Mrs. Adalaide Wicker, on Thursday evening, Jan. 28th. She had a few days previous passed her 77th birthday. The baskets with all the good things the ladies like on such occasions were in evidence, and if half of what E. L., our associate editor, told us is true, they certainly have lost none of their old time vim when they get out for a time, and we are glad of it.

On Tuesday evening of this week the same bunch, the same baskets, with a fresh supply of eatable, were out again - we believe a little later than on the other two occasions. This time Mrs. J. I. Bryant was the victim, and we presume they carried on in there just the same as at the other places. Mrs. Bryant, like the others, had a birthday, it was her 69th. Music, vocal and instrumental, general visiting, etc., took up their time so completely they forgot all about the refreshments, until the electric lights gave them the midnight wink.
