McGinnis, Orville M. (14 MAY 1908 - 13 JAN 1943)

Orville McGinnis, an employee at the office of the Thorp Finance Corporation here, was stricken with a heart attack about 10:15 p.m. Wednesday evening, Jan. 13, 1943, and passed away immediately.

He was one of the businessmen who had gathered at the auditorium that evening to play volleyball, a regular weekly occurrence. At the conclusion of the play he had gone to the shower room not feeling well. The attack came while he was sitting on a bench in the room. A doctor was called but he did not regain consciousness.

The news of the sudden death of Orville spread over our community Thursday, a shock barbed with pain and sorrow. When this paper last came to you the deceased was upon the streets greeting his friends with a happy "good morning." Today all that was mortal of our friend and townsman is at peaceful rest in our silent city.

Orville Martin McGinnis was born in Chicago on May 14, 1908 and passed away at the age of 34 years, 7 months and 30 days. He was united in marriage on Sept. 3, 1932, at Cicero, Ill., to Clara Roytek, daughter of John Roytek of this village. They resided in Chicago until June 16, 1935 when they came to Thorp (Clark Co., Wis.). Mr. McGinnis drove the Standard Oil Truck in Thorp territory for several years before going into the employ of the Thorp Finance Corporation, and has many friends in the rural communities who will mourn his untimely passing.

Surviving are his wife and one son, Jackie; his father Anthony McGinnis of Chicago, two sisters, (Murvin) Mrs. Thomas Mulvihill and (Helen) Mrs. William Peeples of Chicago.

Funeral services were held at St. Hedwig’s Church on Saturday, Jan. 15th at ten a.m., Rev. S.R. Lengowski officiating. Interment took place in the parish cemetery. Pallbearers were Chas. W. Schmidt, Ray Izydorek, Emil Kostner, Mark Hirsch, Gene Brunner and Thomas Mulvihill.
