Frome, Edwin & Lydia (Gold - 12 DEC 1967)

Mr. and Mrs. Edwin L. Frome Sr. of 406 N. Third St. Colby, who were married Dec. 12, 1917, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in the town of Green Grove, will celebrate the golden anniversary of their marriage on Sunday, Dec. 10, 1947.

Open house will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Edwin Frome home at Colby and a dinner for the children and grandchildren will be served at the home of the couple’s son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Mellenthin, at Colby, Wis.

Yellow chrysanthemums have been selected for the corsage and boutonniere of the anniversary couple.

Mr. Frome, son of Henry and Mary Frome, was born April 8, 1895, in the town of Colby (Clark Co., Wis.) and attended school in that township. During World War I he served in Germany in 1918 - 19 with the 89th Division, Co. C, 353rd Infantry.

Mrs. Frome, the former Lydia Schumann, daughter of August and Bertha Schumann, was born June 6, 1898, in the town of Colby and also attended school there. Both she and her husband are members of Zion Lutheran Church, Colby, and Mrs. Frome is also president of its Ladies Aid Society and a Sunday School teacher.

After their marriage, the Fromes farmed in the town of Colby until 1949, when they retired and moved to Colby, to their present address. He operated the Frome Dairy from 1940 to 1949, the year of his retirement.

Mr. Frome enjoys hunting and gardening, and his wife flowers and homemaking.

The couple’s family includes a son, Edwin From Jr., Appleton; Glenn Frome, Antigo; Mrs. Gordon (Marion) Mellenthin, Colby; Mrs. Donald (Lennice) Barr, Milwaukee; and William Frome, Colby, Wis. A son, Kenneth, died June 3, 1933, and a daughter, Elaine, died July 5, 1934.

There are 16 grandchildren.

Wallis Frome, West Bend, a brother of Mr. Frome, will be here for Sunday’s festivities, and also attend the July 30 dinner held at the Zion Parish Hall in Colby, Wisconsin for relatives and the reception at the Frome home.
