Johnson, Joyce Angeline (6 May 1926 - 16 Feb. 2008)

Joyce A. Johnson

Joyce A. Johnson, 81, died Saturday, Feb. 16, 2008, at her home in Medford surrounded by her family, and under the care of Hope Hospice of Medford and Rib Lake.

A celebration of Joyce's life will be held on Saturday, Feb. 23, at Zion Lutheran Church in Colby, with visitation from 10 a.m. until noon, followed by a memorial service.

Joyce Angeline (Markovsky) Johnson was born May 6, 1926, in Minneapolis, Minn., to Nicholas and Elsie (Carlson) Markovsky. She graduated from Roosevelt High School in the Minneapolis area. Her many jobs included waitressing, working in a camera shop, and while living in Colby, bookkeeping at Anderson Insurance Agency. To keep active and challenged in her retirement, Joyce took the treasurer position at Zion Lutheran Church in Colby, which she held for 16 years, just relinquishing her duties this past fall. Her marriage to Bernard Johnson took place Aug. 10, 1946, in Minneapolis, Minn. Shortly thereafter they left for West Palm Beach, Fla., where Bernie was serving in the U.S. Air Force.

She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Colby, Wis. Her hobbies included traveling, fishing, playing cards, painting, reading, cooking and being with her family, who meant the world to her. Joyce truly enjoyed people and would be found making "new" friends whenever the opportunity arose. Family and friends will forever remember her passion for life, wonderful sense of humor and positive attitude.

Joyce is survived by her husband, Bernie Johnson of Medford; a stepsister, Gertrude Harrellson of Dorchester; two daughters, Sandra Johnson of Eau Claire and Vicky (James) Brost of Medford; and a son, David Johnson of Chippewa Falls. Joyce (Mor Mor) was the proud grandmother to five grandchildren, Lindsey and Tony Brost of Medford, and Lucas, Brady and Calvin Johnson of Fall Creek.
