Martinson, Mathilda R. (7 DEC 1863 - 15 APR 1943)

Word was received here this morning telling of the death of Mrs. Peter Martinson, which occurred today at Mount Park Hospital, St. Paul.

Mrs. Martinson and daughter, Mena, had gone there Thursday of last week to seek medical attention for Mrs. Martinson, but at that time she was not considered to be seriously ill. Her death at this time comes as a shock to her numerous friends. There are no funeral arrangements as yet, but her body will be brought to Owen (Clark Co., Wis.) for burial.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at two o’clock from the Congregation Church for Mrs. Mathilda Ray Martinson, 79, whose death occurred Thursday, April 15, 1943, at Mounds Park Hospital, St. Paul, the Rev. Wesley A. Hotchkiss officiating, with burial in the family lot at Riverside Cemetery.

She was born in Norway, Dec. 7, 1863, and came to America with her mother at the age of seven. She made her home there with her parents, her father coming to this country some time before the arrival of his family. She was united in marriage to Peter Martinson at Eau Claire, Sept. 17, 1883. And shortly after their marriage they moved to Badger Mills, and to this union was born four children, two sons, Marin and Alfred, and two daughters, Mena and Josephine, Josephine passing away in 1911.

The family moved to Owen in 1895, and since that time has made this city her home. She was a woman of high ideals, a member of the Congregational Church and Ladies’ Aid,a nd an excellent mother and wife. Her husband preceded her in death seventeen eyars ago, both passing away on the same day and date.

Martinson and son, Cyril T., Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Martinson and son, Howard, and daughter, Mary Louis, of St. Paul, Mr. and Mrs. Guy Gunderson and daughters, Phyllis and June, Mr. and Mrs. A.T. Sorby, Mrs. Albin Nelson, Mrs. Adolph Anderson, Miss Jeanette Anderson of Eau Claire; Mr. and Mrs. Thos. E. Perry, Edgar Perry, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Perry of Chetek; Mrs. Oliver Neverdahl of Stanley.
