Hilgers, Catherine (25 June 1866 - 2 Dec. 1955)

Mrs. John Hilgers, a resident of Colby, Wisconsin for 65 years, died Friday at the Marshfield, Wisconsin Hospital at the age of 89 years. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Lulloff Funeral Home, Rev. Harvey Schmidt, pastor of the Colby Methodist church, officiating, and internment was made in the Colby (Colby, Clark Co. Wis.) Cemetery.

Pall bearers were Angus Lamont, Sr., Fred Zassenhaus, Jr., Ernst Miller, Francis Cross and John Reeves.

Mrs. Hilgers, the former Catherine Jonen, was born at Kaukauna on June 25, 1866, and married John Hilgers on May 8, 1887. Three years later they moved to Colby, Wis. Mr. Hilgers died in November, 1950, and a son, Matthew, also preceded her in death in 1924.

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. O. W. Sturner of Colby and a brother, Henry Jonen of Appleton.

Out of town people here for the funeral were Mrs. Ed Dagenhardt and Mr. and Mrs. Wm. George of Eau Claire and Mr. and Mrs. William Jonen of Wausau.

Mrs. Hilgers was well known here as a good Christian, honest in all her dealings, and like all early settlers in this community, was of a kindly and congenial disposition which made her many friends most of whom preceded her in death.
