Lukowicz, Joseph H. (22 Dec. 1872 - 18 Feb. 1954)

Joseph H. Lukowicz, a former resident of Colby, Wisconsin died last Thursday night at the Langlade County Hospital in Antigo at the age of 81 years. Funeral services were held in St. Hyacinth’s Catholic church in Antigo Monday morning, the Very Rev. Victor Hoppe officiating, and internment was made in the Antigo mausoleum with burial to take place in the Antigo cemetery in the spring.

Mr. Lukowicz, a retired boilermaker for the Chicago & North Western Railway, was born in Milwaukee on December 22, 1872, and accompanied his parents to Athens when a child. He lived in Colby, Wisconsin for a number of years and operated a grist mill here which was destroyed by fire about 25 years ago. Prior to locating in Antigo 48 years ago, he lived in Rhinelander a short time. He was married to Francis Marszynski on April 2, 1895, in Marathon. She died in 1949.

Mr. Lukowicz had served the Catholic church and the Boiler Makers Union in Antigo as secretary. For many years he was a member of the board of directors of the Antigo Catholic Cemetery Association. He retired from railway service 16 years ago.

Surviving are four sons, John Luckowicz of Seattle, Wash., Joseph Lukowicz, Jr., and Thomas Lukowicz of Cudahy; five daughters, Mrs. David Payette of Antigo, Mrs. Arnold Paulson of Minneapolis, Minn., Mrs. Kenneth Bussey of Chicago, Ill., Mrs. Lee Thomas of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Mrs. Morris Coakley of Madison; two sisters, Mrs. George Dumas of Chicago, Ill., and Mrs. Anna Kohl of Racine; 20 grand children and 11 great grand children. He was an uncle of Leo (Snap) Lukowicz of Colby, Wis.
