Kronberg, Arthur (27 JAN 1900 - 2 FEB 1941)

Art Kronberg, 41, of this village (Thorp, Clark Co., Wis.), was fatally injured Sunday morning when he was struck by a car while walking on Highway 29 near the south city limits of Stanley. He was struck by a car driven by Bernard Flunker of Stanley about 1:40 a.m.

Art was walking along the east side of the of the highway north, toward Stanley. Flunker was traveling north toward Stanley. The right front fender of the Flunker car struck him, throwing him into the air and his head plunged through the right front door window of the car.

Arthur Hugh Kronberg was born in Thorp on Jan. 27, 1900, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Mike Kronberg. He attended the local grad and high school and in 1918, at the age of eighteen years, joined the United States Navy. He served on a transport during the war and received his honorable discharge in 1919. After his return from the Navy he spent several years working in the southern states but the past five years he has resided with his parents here and employed in local industries, as much as his health would permit.

He leaves to mourn, his parents and three sisters, Eva of Cumberland, Esther of Oconto Falls and Linda (Mrs. Fred Raynor) of Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Mr. Kronberg was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars organization and a charter member of the American Legion Cecil Tormey Post No. 118 of Thorp. Funeral services were conducted at the Post’s hall here, by Rev. Gaylord of Stanley, on Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 o’clock. This is the first time the Legion building has been used for this purpose. Interment was made in the East Thorp Cemetery with military services at the grave including the salute by the firing squad and taps.

Relatives of the deceased who acted as pallbearers were: Gust Yang, Charles Lindquist, Ellsworth Banderob, Donald Schultz, Kenneth Schultz and Dean Haas.
