Kraus, Beatrice (Marriage - 11 July 1953)

Miss Beatrice Kraus, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. J. Kraus of Colby, and Douglas Rifleman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jess Rifleman of Edgar, were united in marriage in a double-ring ceremony Saturday morning at 9:00 o’clock in St. Mary’s Catholic church in Colby, Wis., Rev. Frank Brickl officiating.

The bride, approaching the altar on the arm of her father, was gowned in a lace-over-taffeta frock fashioned with a scalloped neckline edged with a net ruffle, short sleeves and a full gathered skirt. Her sheer finger-tip veil was caught to a lace pillbox hat trimmed with pearls. Her bouquet was composed of Rhubrum lilies, white baby mums and swansonia with streamers.

Mrs. S. E. Zavala of Chicago, a sister of the bride, as matron of honor, wore a white lace and net over chartreuse taffeta gown, featuring a lace bodice, scalloped neckline and cap sleeves. Alternate flounces of lace and net formed the full skirt which was ankle-length. Lace and net covered the chartreuse taffeta which formed the sweetheart-shaped brim of the half-hat with short matching veil. She carried a colonial bouquet of yellow tinted carnations with green streamers.

The bridesmaids - Mrs. L. K. Hildebrand of Colby, the bride’s cousin, Miss Carol Gottschalk of Edgar, the groom’s niece, junior bridesmaid - wore white lace and net over chartreuse taffeta formals styled like the matron of honor’s. Their headdresses were also the same and each carried a bouquet of yellow tinted carnations.

Miss Raquel Morales of Chicago, the bride’s niece, as junior bride, wore a gown of white lace and taffeta, styled like the bride’s. She carried a miniature bouquet of white baby mums and Rhubrum lily. Her headpiece consisted of a white lace half-hat with a short white veil.

S. E. Zavala of Chicago, the bride’s brother-in-law, was best man and William Rifleman, a brother of the groom, was groomsman. The bride’s cousins, John and David Frane of Colby, ushered.

Catherine Paula Morales of Chicago served as flower girl and wore a dress similar to that of the bridesmaids and carried a white basket of mixed summer flowers.

The bride’s mother wore a blue and white flowered dress with navy accessories and the groom’s mother wore a navy blue dress. Both had a corsage of pink and red roses.

Mrs. Alois Gabriel, a sister of the bride, presided at the organ and sang Back-Gounod’s "Ave Maria" during the offeratory.

A reception in the church gymnasium, from noon to 4:00 P.M., was attended by 250 guests. Yellow and white bells decorated the bride’s table. A large wedding cake centered the table.

The bride is a graduate of Colby High School and has been employed as cashier at the Marshfield clinic for 18 months. The groom is a graduate of the Edgar High School, served in the U.S. army during World War II and now is a rural mail carrier at Edgar. After a trip through western states, the couple will reside at Edgar.

Guests at the wedding were from Milwaukee, La Crosse, Marshfield, Edgar, Rhinelander, Oshkosh, Sheboygan, Fond du Lac, Wittenberg, Curtiss, Milan, Wausau, Green Bay, Calumet City, Ill., Detroit, Mich., and Chicago, Ill.
