Knuf, Evelyn Louise (Marriage - 20 June 1953)

Miss Evelyn Louise Knuf, daughter of Ernest Knuf of Unity, and Gerald George Kops, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lester Kops of Unity, were united in marriage in Zion Lutheran church in Colby Saturday afternoon, Rev. O. Hoffmann officiating. Miss Dorathea Wolz of Big Bend, cousin of the bride, served as maid of honor and Mrs. Leroy Kops of Milwaukee, sister-in-law of the groom, was matron of honor. Bridesmaids were Miss Bette Seefluth of Stevens Point, Miss Caroline Bezak of Unity and Miss Bonnie Binning of Unity, Wis. The attendants wore gowns of moss green, pink, pansy, Nile green and camellia, respectively.

Their dresses were of nylon tulle over white taffeta with shirtwaist styled bodices that closed with tiny covered buttons to the waistline. All the attendants wore white nylon mitts with pleated cuffs and their shell-shaped hats were covered with pleated nylon tulle matching each dress. Their colonial bouquets were of white mums.

The bride, who was presented in marriage by her uncle, Frederick Gumz, was attired in a floor-length gown of white nylon tulle over satin with full skirt of accordion pleated nylon tulle with apron overskirt of the same material edged with matching lace. The bodice featured a Chantilly lace stand-up collar and yoke which extended to the waistline and the long sleeves were of nylon tulle edged with diamond-shaped cuffs of lace.

Her finger-tip lace-edged French illusion veil was caught to a shell-shaped hat of lace over satin with seed pearls scattered across the brim. She carried a bouquet of white mums and trailing ivy centered with a white orchid.

Leroy Kops of Milwaukee, the groom’s brother, was best man. Ushers were Lyle Johnson of Unity, cousin of the groom, Philip Knuf of Unity, brother of the bride, Mark Knuf of Milwaukee, brother of the bride, and Richard Kops of Unity, brother of the groom.

During the service Donald Schulz, accompanied by Mrs. Howard Rannow, sang "Because" and "The Lord’s Prayer."

The bride’s aunt, Mrs. Frederick Gumz, attended the wedding attired in an orchid crepe dress accented with a corsage of white carnations and pink rosebuds. The mother of the groom wore a navy blue dress and a corsage of white carnations and red rose-buds.

A reception was held at the American Legion Hall. The four-tiered wedding cake which centered the table was decorated with fresh rosebuds, miniature pansies, and forget-me-nots.

The bride, a graduate of Central State College, Stevens Point, is a teacher in the Unity Public School. The groom attended Colby High School and is now engaged in farming. After a honeymoon in Northern Wisconsin, the new Mr. and Mrs. Kops will reside on his farm east of Unity, Wis.
