Schoelzel, Anna (31 Jan. 1873 - 11 Sept. 1952)

Mrs. Anna Schoelzel of Colby died at the age of 79 years last Thursday evening at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Herbert Meyers, in the town of Colby in Clark county, where she had been staying. Although she had not been feeling well for the past few years, she was up and about until she suffered a heart attack and died suddenly. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the First Evangelical and Reformed church in Colby, Wis., Rev. Franz P. Puhlmann officiating, and internment was made in the Colby (Colby, Clark Co. Wis.) Cemetery. Grand children served as pall bearers and flower girls.

Mrs. Schoelzel, nee Anna Schulz, was born on January 31, 1873, in Germany and came to the United States at the age of 17. She lived in Chicago, Ill., where she married August Schoelzel on July 3, 1892. The following year, they came to the town of Colby and settled on a farm. In 1920, they retired and moved to the city of Colby, Wis. Mr. Schoelzel died on August 6, 1947.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Herbert (Helen) Meyers of Colby and Mrs. John (Ella) Leonhard of Lake Geneva; a son, Rudolph, of Colby; 33 grand children and 24 great grand children.

Mrs. Schoelzel was a member of the First Evagelical and Reformed church and the Women’s Guild of that church. She held the office of president of the Women’s Guild for 25 successive years. She was a good Christian, honest in all her dealings, and, being of a congenial disposition, had many friends who were sorry to hear of her sudden death.
