Holmes, Alice Myrtle (9 July 1873 - 26 Dec. 1951)

Mrs. Henry Holmes, a resident of Unity most of her life, died Wednesday morning at the age of 78 years at the home of her son, Rev. Lee Holmes of Loyal, where she had been making her home the past two months. Funeral services were held in the Methodist church in Unity Friday afternoon, Rev. Fred J. Smith officiating, and internment was made in the Brighton cemetery.

Mrs. Homes, nee Alice Myrtle Pond, was born on July 9, 1873, in Minnesota. She received her education in Unity and the Oshkosh Normal School. She spent most of her life in Clark county and taught school in the county for several years. She married Henry Holmes in 1897 in Unity, Wis. In 1903 they moved onto a farm near Unity and resided there until the death of Mr. Holmes in 1938. Since that time, she lived in Unity and Loyal. Mrs. Holmes was a member of the Women’s Society of Christian Service of the Methodist church.

Surviving are two sons, Chaplain Peter Holmes of San Pedro, Calif., and Rev. Lee Holmes of Loyal; three daughters, Mrs. Herman (Eunice) Blair and Mrs. Harvey (Myrtle) Meacham of Colby and Mrs. Roscoe (Alice) Meacham of Unity; 11 grand children; three great grand children. Four children and two brothers preceded her in death.
