Johnson, John

(Neillsville Times)

John Johnson, clerk of the town of Levis, Clark Co., Wis., lost his Chevrolet car last Friday evening when it caught fire and was burned to the ground, as it were. John had started to town to attend commencement exercises, his daughter being a member of the class. He had gone but a short distance when his car commenced to give trouble. He got out to crank it up and the engine back-fired. There was an accumulation of oil and grease in the pan under the motor and this caught fire. In a few minutes the car was in flames and nothing could be done to save it. It was a fairly complete wreck when the fire was over and a complete loss. In addition, a daughter of Mr. Johnson lost her purse containing $60 in the fire, as she left the money on the seat when she jumped from the car.
