Steiger, Evelyn (Marriage - 29 Sept. 1943)

During a 7:30 candlelight service at the West Side Reformed Church on Wednesday evening, September 29, Miss Evelyn Steiger, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Steiger, Greenwood, became the bride of S/Sgt. Karl Mitschka, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Mitschka of Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

A double ring ceremony was performed by the Rev. P. H. Franzmier before an altar banked with gladioli, snapdragons and asters. During the ceremony, "I Love You Truly" was sung by the Miss Ruth Humke, accompanied by Mrs. Franzmeier, who also played the processional and recessional.

The bride, given away by her father, was attired in a navy blue suit, with brown accessories and wore a corsage of gardenias. Her attendant, Miss Beatrice Steiger, sister of the bride, was dressed in a gray suit with green accessories. The groom’s mother wore a blue sutie and a corsage of white daisies and pompon asters. The bride’s mother was dressed in a navy blue dress and wore a corsage of yellow and white daises and asters.

The groom wore a full dress army uniform and was attended by his cousin, Gordon Johns, who wore a navy blue suit.

After the ceremony a dinner was served for immediate relatives and friends at the Lyon’s café. A four tiered wedding cake served as a centerpiece. The room was beautifully decorated. Guests included: Mrs. John Mitschka, Mr. and Mrs. August Johns and Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Johns, Milwuakee; Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Steiger and family, Rev. and Mrs. P. H. Franzmeier and family and Miss Ruth Humke, Greenwood.

A dance was given in their honor that evening at the Merry Ol’Gardens.

S/Sgt. and Mrs. Mitschka left Thursday for Aberdeen, Maryland, where the groom is stationed.

Mrs. Mitschka taught in the rural schools of Clark County for the past six years. The groom, before entereing the service, was employed by the Falk Corporation in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
