Parkhill, George B. (26 Feb. 1861 - 1 Feb. 1947)

Funeral services for George B. Parkhill, a former Colby citizen, who died at the home of his son, Oakley, at Galesville, Wis., on Saturday, Feb. 1, were held Tuesday, Feb. 4th, at Madison, Wis., Rev. Merrill E. Abbey of the First University Methodist parish officiating.

George B. Parkhill was born on February 26, 1861, at Lennox, New York, and was the fifth son of Eli and Susan Niles Parkhill. He came to Wisconsin with his parents after the Civil War in 1867. The Parkhill homestead was between Abbotsford and Colby, Wis. He graduated from Oshkosh Business College and taught school for several years. He graduated from the Wisconsin University Law School with the class of 1884. He established his law practice in Thorp, Wis., in 1886. He served as a postmaster of Thorp for 12 years in connection with his law office and also served two terms as district attorney of Clark county.

In November, 1887, he married Isabelle Salisbury of Eau Claire who preceded him in death in 1929. Born to this union were Oakley L. Parkhill now of Galesville, Mrs. Hazel Zinkler of Crystal Lake, Ill., and Mrs. Ilene Lawson of Madison, all of whom survive.

He moved with his family to Abbotsford in 1914 and established his law practice there until 1925 when he moved to Madison, Wis. He practiced law in Madison until the summer of 1936. He made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Lawson, until moving to Galesville in May, 1944, where he lived with his son.

He had been active in civic affairs all of his life and was a member of the Modern Woodmen, the Moose, and the Odd Fellows.
