Dennis R. Bauer, 58, Spencer, formerly of Greenwood, died at his home on Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2007. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., on Saturday, Dec. 15, 2007, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Loyal. The Rev. Roman Kaiser and the Rev. Joseph Follmar co-celebrated the Mass. Burial followed in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Greenwood, Wisconsin. Pallbearers were Josh Grambsch, Brian Duell, Kevin Carlson, Michael Bauer, Jeremy Bauer, Jeremiah Wolf, Ben Wolf, Ryan Schoen, Paul Haslow, and Jacob Haslow.
Dennis Robert Bauer was born on July 30, 1949 in Marshfield, to Robert and Elaine (nee White) Bauer. He was raised and received his education in Loyal, attending St. Anthony’s Catholic School and graduating from Loyal High School in 1968. After completing his education, he attended Mid-State Technical College, Wisconsin Rapids. He served in the Army National Guard from 1969-75.
He married Laurette Wolf on Oct. 18, 1969, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Loyal. After their marriage, they lived in Spencer for two years, where he worked at the Spencer Co-op, and then moved to Greenwood, where they farmed for 25 years. After retiring from farming, he worked at Lynn Dairy, Fiskars of Spencer, and Nelson Filter, Neillsville. In 2005, they moved back to Spencer and have resided there until the present time. He was an avid gardener and loved woodworking, but his pride and joy were his children, with a special passion for spoiling his grandchildren. He was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church, Spencer, a former member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Greenwood, and a former Board member of Greenwood Co-op Services (now Heartland Co-op).
He will be sadly missed by his wife, Laurette, Spencer; five children, Michael (Lesley) Bauer, Arpin, Andy (Cindy) Bauer, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Gary (Andrea) Bauer, Spencer, Todd Bauer, River Falls, and Becky (Jason) Weyer, Cedar Rapids, Iowa; six grandchildren, James, Kaitlyn, Sean, Dillon, Nora and eve; his father, Bob Bauer, Loyal; three brothers, Dave (Sue) Bauer, Marshfield, Wayne (Kelly) Bauer, Loyal, and Doug (Kelly) Bauer, Stratford; five sisters, Joann Snow, Waco, Texas, Roberta Bauer, Springfield, Tenn., Loni (Tom) Duell, Loyal, Shari (Ken) Volovsek, Chillis, Idaho, and Lori (Harry) Bentzler, Silt, Colo.; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.
Preceding him in death were his mother; one son, Tony Bauer; and one brother, Mark Bauer.
Cuddie Funeral Home, Loyal, assisted the family with arrangements.
