Kuehl, John (4 AUG 1859 - 1 NOV 1940)
John Kuehl, an aged respected citizen of this village (Thorp, Clark Co., Wis.), passed away at the Luther Hospital at Eau Claire on Friday, Nov. 1, 1940, at 8:15 p.m., after a lingering illness of three and one-half months. He had reached the ripe old age of 81 years, 2 months and 3 days.
Mr. Kuehl was born in Schleswig, Germany, on Aug. 4, 1859. In the year 1871 at the age of twelve, he came t this country with his mother and settled in Calumet County. Upon leaving there he moved to the Town of Worden, Clark County, where he farmed until 1923 when he retired and came to the village of Thorp. He resided here until his removal to the hospital on July 15th of this year.
He was married to Augusta Braun on Oct. 26, 1890 at Thorp.
He leaves to mourn his death, one daughter, Agnes (Mrs. Geo. Quinn) of St. Paul; four sons, Hugo of the town of Butler, Theodore of Elhorn, Wis., August of Mendota, Ill., and George of St. Paul, Minn.; 12 grandchildren and many old friends and neighbors. One son, William, preceded him in death on May 17, 1924.
The body lay in state at the P.N.A. Hall until the time of the funeral on Monday, and services were conducted by Rev. Jas. Irish at the Methodist Church, with interment following in the East Thorp Cemetery. Pallbearers were Charles and Oscar Ramberg, George and Robert Haas, Peter and Emil Henke.
