Schmitt, Elvera (Marriage - 22 Sept. 1945)

The marriage of Miss Elvera Schmidt, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Schmitt of the town of Hull, and Walter Johnson, son of Mr. and Mrs. John W. Johnson of the town of Unity, was solemnized Saturday afternoon, Sept. 22nd, in the Zion Lutheran church in Colby, Rev. O. Hoffmann reading the marriage ceremony.

Elaine and LaVonne Domer sang the duet, "I Love You Truly," and Irvin Lutz was organist.

Attendants were Miss Vera Johnson, Unity, sister of the groom, as maid of honor; Elroy Schmitt, Colby, brother of the bride, best man, and Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Ayer of Spencer, and Mr. and Mrs. Roy Justman, Jr., Marshfield, brothers in law and sisters of the groom, bridesmaids and groomsmen.

For the occasion the bride wore an entrained white satin gown trimmed with lace. Her long veil of illusion inserted with lace was caught to a tiara of rhinestones and she carried white gladioli, roses and swansonia. Her gold locket was a gift of the groom.

Miss Johnson was attired in a blue ninon formal frock which buttoned to the waistline in back and was designed with a sweetheart neckline, long full sleeves, a snug bodice and a ballerina skirt. Her bouquet was a fan-shaped arrangement of larkspur, asters, and swansonia tied with yellow net. The bridesmaids wore pink net over satin and aqua taffeta and net formals, respectively, and carried colonial bouquets. All wore matching bonnets.

Following the service, covers were laid for 80 guests at supper at the Schmitt home, decorated with blue, pink, aqua and white streamers and white wedding bells. That evening a dance was held at Wiedenhoeft’s Pavilion at Colby, Wis.

Following a wedding trip to northern Wisconsin and upper Michigan, the couple are now at home to friends on the groom’s farm in the town of Unity, Wis. Mr. Johnson was graduated from the Unity, Wis. High School with the class of 1941.

A reception was held in the afternoon at the Schmitt home and that evening the event was celebrated at a wedding dance in Wiedenhoeft pavilion at Colby, Wis. The couple is spending this week in northern Wisconsin.
