Arends, Irene (Marriage - 22 June 1944)

Miss Irene Arends, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Arends of Colby, and Lawrence E. Heeg, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Heeg, Sr., of Marshfield, exchanged marriage vows last Thursday morning at 9:00 A.M. before the altar of St. Mary’s Catholic church at Colby, decked with pink peonies and roses with Rev. L. J. Lang officiating.

Attendants were Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Arends, and John Arends, brothers and sister-in-law of the bride, and Miss Jerry Heeg, a sister of the groom.

The bride wore a floor-length gown of white satin with an overskirt of marquisette. The fitted bodice, buttoned down the back, was distinguished with three quarter length sleeves and a sweetheart neckline, and she wore a gold locket and bracelet belonging to her mother. Her four-tier fingertip veil was caught to a pearlized orange blossom headdress and she carried a shower bouquet of sweet peas, gladioli, baby breath and ferns.

Mrs. Arends, as matron of honor, wore a blue taffeta frock and Miss Heeg wore pink taffeta. Both wore matching blusher veils and carried colonial bouquets.

Mrs. Arends, mother of the bride, wore a navy blue dress and the groom’s mother was attired in a powder blue frock trimmed in white. Shoulder corsages of mixed flowers completed their costumes.

A wedding breakfast was served to the bridal party at the home of Mr. and Mrs. William Meyer. Dinner and supper was served to 65 guests at the home of the bride’s parents which was decorated with pink, white and blue streamers and garden flowers. A three-tiered wedding cake, decorated with roses and miniature bride and groom ornament formed the center-piece at the bride’s table. A wedding dance was held in the evening at Wiedenhoeft’s park.

Mrs. Heeg is a graduate of the Colby, Wis. High School with the class of 1941, and for the past two years has been employed by the Roddis Lumber and Veneer Co. The couple is now at home on the groom’s farm near Marshfield.

Out of town people present were Mr. and Mrs. Matt Schaffer, Sr., Mr. and Mrs. Matt Schaffer, Jr., Mr. and Mrs. Mike Weins and daughter, Jacqueline, of Hilbert, Mrs. Phillip Escher of New Holstein, Joseph Arends of West Bend, John Arends of Greenwood, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Heeg, Mr. and Mrs. William Drexler and son and Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Pankratz and family of Auburndale, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Heeg, Sr., and family, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Arends and family, and Mrs. Anna Christen and daughter, Marcella, of Marshfield.
