Butler, Abraham Israel (24 Apr. 1863 - 8 Feb. 1944)

Abraham Israel Butler died of a heart attack at his home in Colby Tuesday morning at 6:30 o’clock at the age of 80 years, nine months and 14 days. Funeral services will be held this Thursday morning at 9:30 o’clock at St. Mary’s Catholic church, Rev. L. J. Lang officiating, and internment will be made in the Colby cemetery.

Mr. Butler was born in Fond du Lac, Wis., on April 24th, 1863, and moved to Unity, Wis., with his parents when he was 13 years of age. On Sept. 9, 1891, he was married to Josephine Hertel at St. Killian’s church in Colby, Wis. A few years after this marriage he moved onto a farm west of Unity and lived there until 1919 when he bought what is now the Henry Hein farm which he operated until 1923 when he bought lots in Colby on Spence street and built the present Butler home. Mr. Butler also operated saw mills at Unity, Marshfield and Arpin. His wife died on May 26, 1918. On July 3, 1922, he married Mrs. Louise Mueller at Colby, Wis.

Surviving are his wife; one son, Earl, two brothers, Eli and Louis Butler of Fond du Lac; two sisters, Mrs. Ida Schelley of Fond du Lac, and Mrs. Florence Kiech of Milwaukee; and four step-children, William, Edward and Walter Mueller of Colby, Wis., and Mrs. Fred Beisner of Dorchester, Wis. Also nine grand children and three great grand children. One daughter, Mrs. Henry (Ruth) Hein died in 1940.

Mr. Butler was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters, a good Christian and honest in all his dealings. Invariably, he was a kind and indulgent husband and father, a good neighbor and will be missed by all who knew him.

Funeral services for Abraham Butler were held last Thursday morning at St. Mary’s Catholic church, Rev. F. J. Brockman, pastor of St. Bernard’s church of Abbotsford, officiating, and burial was made in the Colby cemetery. Pall bearers were Conrad Niggemann, Paul Mais, Albert Engeldinger, Fred Zassenhaus, Leon Beyerl and Theo Brill. The flowers were in charge of Betty Frane, Delores Beyerl, Rose Hein and Eileen Gutenberger.

Out of town relatives and friends here for the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Weller and son, Arnold, and Miss Ruth Butler of Milwaukee, Mr. and Mrs. Norbert Lasee, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Butler and Mr. and Mrs. Ervin Weller of Marshfield, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Beisner of Dorchester, Mr. and Mrs. Otto Hankwitz of Fond du Lac, Mr. and Mrs. Anton Gulcynski and Mrs. Anna Andrews of Thorp, Mrs. Agnes Robinson of Lublin, Miss Amy Klein and Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Kanter of Unity, Wis.
