Carskaden, Mattie (28 Nov. 1868 - 1 Aug. 1943)

Funeral services for Mrs. Mattie Carskaden, 74, who had been ill for a number of years, and died Sunday, August 1, 1943, at 3:25 p.m. at her home in Neillsville, was held Wednesday, August 4, 1943 at 2 p.m., from the Jaster Funeral Home, the Rev. G. W. Longenecker officiating; interment in the Neillsville Cemetery.

Mattie Shay was born to Mr. and Mrs. Christopher Shay, in Norway, November 28, 1868. At the age of 8 years she came with her parents to this country and has been a resident of Clark County for 59 years.

On July 2, 1892, she was united in marriage to William Carskaden. To this union were born one daughter, Genevieve, who is Mrs. James Hughs, who resides in the town of Weston.

The deceased is survived by her husband and daughter, and three brothers; Gilbert Shay, of Blair, Christopher Shay, who resides in Canada, and Olaf Shay of the state of Washington.
