Brunner, Lyle (27 June 1917 - 18 Nov. 1943)

Mr. and Mrs. Frank Bernitt of Abbotsford, Wisconsin received a telegram to the effect that their son, Cpl. Lyle Brunner, died of wounds suffered in the Pacific Islands. Cpl. Brunner was serving with the U.S. Marine Corps which he joined in the spring of 1942. His last letter reached home seven weeks ago. He left the United States late last January or early in February and it was never learned exactly where he was stationed. The telegram stated that a letter would follow.

Cpl. Brunner was a graduate of the Abbotsford, Wis. High School, class of 1936, and was a star on the high school basketball team. He received his Marine training at Camp Elliott, San Diego, Calif. He was an instructor in bayonet tactics while still in this country and was one of the fifty marines chosen as a guard of honor for President Roosevelt when the President visited Camp Pendleton, Ore., in the fall of 1942.
