Mr. and Mrs. Harold Matthias and children of Ashland spent the week-end with the former’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Matthias.

A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Gayken of Hoard on Aug. 26th.

Mrs. Carla Sturner of Stanley and sisters, Christine and Edith Ostenson visited with Mrs. C. Gilbertson and Martha Harmel on Sunday.

The Ladies’ Aid of the Ev. and Lutheran church will meet with Mrs. Felix Schiszik on Thurs., Sept. 9.

Teachers from this vicinity beginning their school year are the Misses Minnie Thompson, Milwaukee, Wis., thea Thompson, Beloit, Mary Thompson, Nekoosa, Marion Lupient, Marinette, Evelyn Fahrenbach, Edgar, Myrtle Hoff, Owen, Anna B. Hanson, Wausau, Elaine Jakel, Mosinee.

The Woodland school of Green Grove opened on Aug. 23, Miss Jean Cook, teacher; Midway school on Aug. 30, Miss Ruth Meikenen, teacher; Brady school, Miss Anna Marie Hanson, teacher.

The Curtiss school will open on Monday, Sept. 6th, with John Cross as principal, and Miss Edith Candahl, primary.

Miss Helen Koerner, Chicago, and Miss Linda Koerner, Milwaukee, Wis., and Mrs. Clarence Koerner, Marshfield, were recent guests at the home of their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ervin Koerner.

Mrs. Lou Bulgrin and daughters, Mrs. DuWayne Bulgrin and sons, of Owen, called at the Martha Harmel and Matt Rued homes on Monday.

Miss Ethel Erickson, Eau Claire, spent the week-end with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. M. Erickson.

Mr. and Mrs. Paul Fricke and daughter, Yvonne, returned home on Friday evening after having spent the week on an outing at Minocqua.

Mrs. Harold Frank returned on Sunday from a week’s visit with relatives in Menomonie.

Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Thompson and daughters, their guests, Irene and Yvonne Anderson, of Prairie Farm, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Matthias, Miss Thea Thompson and Mr. and Mrs. Harold Matthias and children spent Friday at Richter’s Lake.

Mr. and Mrs. Halber Gilbertson and son, Junior, of Chicago spent a week’s vacation here with relatives and friends on Sunday accompanied by Mrs. Martha Harmel. They were all supper guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ale Gilbertson of Dorchester, Wis.

Henry Hermanson, who has been doing defense work the past two years, has enlisted in the U.S. navy. He arrived home on Sunday to spend a few days with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Marcus Hermanson, and will leave on Friday, Sept. 3rd, for Toledo, Ohio, to begin his naval training. His brother, Arvid, who is in the navy and stationed on the U.S. Wolverine near Chicago, also spent the week-end at his home.

Bonnie Folz, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Art Folz who had the misfortune of breaking her arm on Saturday by falling from a horse, is receiving medical treatment at the Marshfield hospital.
