Reeves, Mr./Mrs. Henry Sr. (50th Anniv. - 25 July 1943)

Mr. and Mrs. Henry Reeves, Sr., celebrated their 50th or golden wedding anniversary Sunday, July 25, 1943, at the home of their son in law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. W. M. Harry, in the town of Colby, Wis. About 75 relatives and friends were present at the gathering and extended their well-wishes.

All the children were present except John of Milwaukee. Mrs. Reeves’ sister, Mrs. Mary Pahl, who attended her as maid of honor 50 years ago, also was present. Mr. Reeves’ brother, William, of Washington, and Mrs. Reeves’ sister, Mrs. Dena Meach, of Milwaukee, were unable to come. The home was nicely decorated with gold streamers and gold flowers. The center decorations on the table included two gold candles and a three tier wedding cake topped with a golden wedding bell. Wm. E. Gosse and son, Melvin, furnished music in the afternoon and evening. Mr. and Mrs. Reeves received many beautiful gifts, including money, from their guests.

Mr. Reeves was born in the town of McKann, Green Lake county, Wisconsin, on Feb. 14th, (St. Valentine’s Day), 1866, and moved to Colby on Dec. 25th, 1880. He was foreman at the R. B. Salter saw mill from 1887 to 1905 after which he was teamster for the C. J. Mitchel Brewing Co. for many years. He served as alderman and supervisor for the city of Colby for 14 years. Mrs. Reeves was born in Fairchild, Jackson county, on June 2, 1875, and came to Colby 51 years ago. The couple was married on July 25th, 1893, at Colby, Wisconsin, by Judge R. B. Salter. There are four children - Henry Reeves, Jr., of Colby, John Reeves of Milwaukee, Mrs. W. M. (Neva) Harry of Colby, Wis., and Harold Reeves of Abbotsford, Wis. There are 12 grand children, four of whom are in the armed forces. Those in the army are Cpl. Chester Reeves of Camp Maxey, Texas, Cpl. Gerry Reeves of Nashville, Tenn., and Pvt. Richard and Robert Reeves, overseas.

Out of town guests were Mrs. Mary Rahl, Henry Rahl, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Travis and Lois Rahl of Augusta, Mrs. Desmond Drischell of New York City, Mr. and Mrs. Nick Schlechter of Fairchild, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Tennis and Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Morgan of Unity, Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Harry of Marshfield, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Allen and children of Owen, Mr. and Mrs. Sebastian Bord of Spencer, Mr. and Mrs. Tony Gabrial of Milwaukee, Mrs. Emma Stoiber of Dorchester and her sister, Rose, of California.
