Mundt, Herta Marie (Marriage - 28 Aug. 1943)

During a six o’clock candlelight service Saturday evening in the palm and white flower decorated Zion Evangelical Lutheran church in Colby, Miss Herta Marie Mundt, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Mundt, became the bride of Rev. Russel R. Deng of Clemens, Mich., son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Deng of the same city. Rev. O. Hoffmann presided at the double-ring ceremony during which the Sacrament of the Altar was taken by the bride and groom.

A sister of the groom, Mrs. William Roth of Detroit, Mich., presented a recital of sacred nuptial music before the ceremony. The processional was "Epithalame in C" by A. Guilmacht and the recessional "Benediction Nuptiale in F" by C. Saint-Saens. Music was provided throughout the ceremony.

For her wedding, the bride wore a gown of champagne slipper satin designed with a long train and enhancing the ensemble with a hand-carved mother-of-pearl lavaliere with Star of Bethlehem pendant made in Jerusalem, a gift of the groom. The long flowing veil fell from a Juliet cap with seed pearls. She carried a prayerbook and gardenias.

Attending the bride were Miss Alice Mundt, sister of the bride, as maid of honor, and Miss Arleen Diedrich of Oshkosh, a cousin of the bride, and Miss Lenore Baumgart of Chicago as bridesmaid. The maid of honor was attired in a dress of orchid net and taffeta, orchid net mitts and orchid Juliet cap. Her flowers consisted of pink roses and white and orchid asters. Dresses fashioned similar to the maid of honor’s were worn by the bridesmaids and they carried pink roses and asters.

The groom was attended by his cousin, James Lagergren of Detroit, Mich., as best man and by William Bellhorn of Utica, Mich., and Rev. Walter H. Meier of Lockort, N.Y., as ushers.

The bride’s mother wore a slate blue dress with hat of wild grape and other accessories of navy. Her corsage consisted of pink gladiolus and white roses. Mrs. Deng wore pink roses and white gladiolus on wine with black accessories.

A dinner for 50 was served in the church parlors, the tables for which were decorated with garden flowers and candelabra, using the color scheme of pink, white and orchid. A three-tiered decorated wedding cake centered the bride’s table. A reception was held at the home of the bride’s parents at nine o’clock in the evening.

Rev. and Mrs. Deng left on a two week’s wedding trip to Northern Wisconsin, and, after Sept. 19th, will be at home to their friends at 24 Third Street, Mt. Clemens, Mich., where Rev. Deng serves as minister. The groom attended Wayne University at Detroit, Mich., and was graduated from Concordia Theological Seminary of Springfield, Ill.
