Martens, Bernice (Marriage - 29 June 1943)

Miss Bernice Martens, daughter of Mrs. Emily Martens of Unity, became the bride of George Roth, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. George Roth, Sr., also of Unity, at a ceremony performed at St. Mary’s Catholic church at Colby Tuesday morning, June 29. Rev. L. J. Lang read the nuptial vows. Sister of the bride and groom, Miss Caroline Martens and Miss Bernadette Roth, both of Milwaukee, were maid of honor and bridesmaid. Virgil Roth of Loyal, brother of the groom, and Raymond Orth of Abbotsford, cousin of the bride, attended the groom.

The bride was attired in a gown of white lace and chiffon made with a snug bodice and full skirt. Long fitted sleeves ended in points at the wrist and she wore a finger tip length veil. Her colonial bouquet consisted of red roses and white carnations. Miss Caroline Martens wore a lace and net frock of light blue and Miss Roth was attired in a gown of pink mousseline de soie. Matching blusher veils and wrist corsages completed their costumes.

A wedding breakfast was served the bridal party and a one o’clock dinner to 25 guests. Decorations were in pink and blue and a wedding cake centered the table. In the evening, a dance was held at Wiedenhoeft’s pavilion at Colby, Wis.

Mrs. Roth is a graduate of the Unity, Wis. High School and attended the Central State Teacher’s College at Stevens Point. For the past four years she taught school in the vicinity of Unity, Wis.

Guests included Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Roth and family of Loyal, Mr. and Mrs. Helmuth Kuester of Milwaukee and Rev. Lang of Colby, Wis.

The couple are now at home on the groom’s farm south of Unity after a brief wedding trip to Northern Wisconsin.
