Messing, Elery (29 Feb. 1880 - 28 Jan. 1943)

Sherwood - Elery Messing passed away at the General Hospital at Madison Thursday, January 28, 1942. He was born February 29, 1880, the son of George and Mary Ann Messing at Almond, Wis., He came with his parents, when a small boy, to the town of Cary, Wood County. He lived with his parents, until in July, 1905, when he was married to Bertha Stubs in Lynn, Wis. They went to housekeeping on a farm of their own in Sherwood, where he lived until a short time before his death. Seven children were born to this union: Irma, Mrs. John Poppe, Manly, Ia.; Ruth, Yellowstone, Mont.; Delma, Mrs. Walter Leuck, Loyal; Rosaline, Mrs. Robert Harrison, Chippewa Falls; and Elmer, Granton. A daughter, Margaret, and an infant son preceded the parents in death. Mrs. Messing died at her home in Sherwood in 1937. Mr. Messing was a good neighbor and a kind father.

Funeral services were held Sunday at the Sherwood Community church at 2 p.m., Rev. Obed Asp officiating. Interment was made in Sherwood Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Albert Gall, George Fluegel, Max Falk and Arthur Sparks.

Out of town relatives who were here for the rites were Mr. and Mrs. George Messing and Mrs. Eliza Messing, Wisconsin Rapids; and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Harrison, Chippewa Falls.
