Zarnke, Anna (24 Apr. 1874 - 25 Oct. 1942)

Mrs. William Zarnke died Sunday night at 9:30 o’clock at her home in Colby at the age of 68 years, cerebral hemorrhage of three days duration being the cause of her death. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the First Evangelical and Reformed church in Colby, Rev. D. Grether officiating, and internment was made in the Colby cemetery. Pall bearers were William, John, Paul and Otto Witte, Chas. Miller and George Miller. Those in charge of the flowers were Delrose Green, Virginia Green, Verno Zarnke, Ila Zarnke, Harry Green, James Murphy, Kenneth Murphy and Robert Unger.

The deceased, whose maiden name was Anna Witte, was born on April 24, 1874, in Seehausen, Prussia, Germany, and came to the United States with her parents when about six months of age. Prior to moving to Colby she lived in Sheboygan. She married Mr. Zarnke on May 14th, 1895, in Colby, Wis. They lived on a farm in the town of Hull until a year ago when they moved to Colby, Wis. She was a member of the St. John’s Evangelical and Reformed church and the ladies’ aid of that congregation.

Surviving are her husband and 13 children - Mrs. Robert Unger, Miss Hulda Zarnke and Paul Zarnke of Colby, Mrs. Bertha Farmer, Mrs. Harry Green, Mrs. Andrew Gumm and Mrs. Raymond Sambs of Milwaukee, Mrs. John Murphy and Mrs. Earl Williams of West Allis, Mrs. Lyle Stukenrauch of Seattle, Wash., William Zarnke, Jr., of Stratford, Oscar Zarnke of Medford and Private Otto Zarnke in the U.S. army. Also three sisters and five brothers - Mrs. Robert Schorer, Mrs. George Miller and Frank, William, Otto, Paul and John Witte of Colby, and Mrs. Chas. Mueller of Wells, Minn. There are 14 grand children.
