Vaughn Forster

Vaughn Joseph Forster Sr., 80, of 832 Woodward Ave., Chippewa Falls, died at his residence surrounded by his family on Wednesday, August 3, 2005, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born July 1, 1925, in Durand, the son of Roy and Agnes (Harmon) Forster.

In 1928, with his parents, he moved to Stanley where he attended local schools. He was drafted into the military in 1944, and trained in Jacksonville, Fla., Camp Blainding. He was shipped overseas and arrived in France in December of 1944. There, he joined the 4th Division, 3rd Army in the Battle of the Bulge. He was injured and spent two and a half months in an England hospital and was honorably discharged on February 26, 1946.

In 1946, he purchased a farm near Stanley and married Mathilda (Cornwell) Lund on August 21, 1948, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church.

Besides farming, he worked 14 years as chairman of Clark County Agricultural Stabilization, spent 21 years as a member of the Stanley School Board and worked 20 years at the Northern Center. He sold the farm in 1979 to Kenneth and Veronica Forster and retired July 1, 1987. After retirement he enjoyed woodcrafts, fishing and traveling.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Goldsmith Council 974, 4th Degree of Bishop Fulton J. Sheen Assembly, and an honorary member for over 25 years, and was also a member of the American Post 77.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mathilda; five sons, Alan Lund of Cadott, Duane (Judy) Lund of Red Wing, Minn., LeRoy (Lisa) Forster of Prairie Farm, Vaughn James (Joanne) Forster of Stanley and Kenneth (Veronica) Forster of Stanley; three daughters, Sharon (Kelly) Karrmann of Chippewa Falls, La Vawn (Ray) Beecher of Salem and Mary Jane Forster of Eau Claire; one brother, Paul (Caryn) Forster of Clinton, Md.; two sisters, Sister Lorraine Forster of Las Vegas, Nev., and Phyllis (Robert) Dolle of Spokane, Wash.; five brothers-in-law; six sisters-in-law; 24 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and cousins; special family friends, Dr. Roberto and Dr. Myrna Casing of Stanley; and many friends.

He was preceded in death by one son, Charlie in 1959; one daughter-in-law, Linda Lund; and his parents.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, August 8, 2005, at Holy Family Church in Stanley. Rev. Robert Nelson will be celebrant of the funeral Mass. Interment will be in Holy Family Cemetery, Stanley. Military rites will be conducted by the Chippewa Falls Patriotic Council.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, August 7, at the Horan Funeral Home, Chippewa Falls, and on Monday one hour before Mass at Holy Family Church, Stanley. The Knights of Columbus Goldsmith Council 974 will recite the rosary at 5:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
