Neff, Johnathon (18 JUN 1870 - 8 SEP 1940)

Johnathon Neff passed away in the hospital at Chippewa Falls on Sunday, Sept. 8, 1940. He had suffered for many years with diabetes and about six weeks ago gangrene started in one foot. Under advice of his physician, he was taken to the hospital on Sept. 2, and had the foot amputated. He lingered till death mercifully released him.

Mr. Neff was 70 years, 2 months and 20 days of age, having been born on June 18, 1870, in the town of West Menasha. He was married to Mrs. Nellie Neff on Sept. 9, 1903, and came to the town of Longwood (Clark Co., Wis.) 31 years ago, where he has resided on his own farm since that date as an industrious and honorable citizen.

He leaves to mourn his passing, his widow Mrs. Nellie Neff, two step-sons, Earl and Frank Neff; Mrs. Margie McNitt, a step-daughter, and family; a brother, Myron Neff of Seattle, Wash.; and many other relatives among whom is Chester Neff, a nephew; and Mrs. E. Neff, a sister-in-law, who lives close neighbors to the deceased; also many friends.

The funeral was held at the Griebenow Funeral Parlors in Owen at two p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 10, interment at Riverside Cemetery.

The pallbearers were William Gautsch, Lynn Hodnett, Edward Poppe, Ernest buss, Joe Wnukowski and Frank Zawadski. The flower girls were Delia Poppe, , Pearl Hodnett, Alice and Frances Zawadski.

Rev. W.P.D. Powe delivered the funeral sermon. The music was furnished by the Misses Dike and Marking .

Relatives from out of town who attended the funeral were Abel Neff of Oshkosh; Gilbert Neff, Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Smith and daughter, Beverly, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Smith, George Krause, Mr. and Mrs. Robert DeWert and Mr. and Mrs. Russell Arnold and two children, and Miss Nellie McNitt, all of Neenah; and High Neff of Eagle River.
