Hanson, Mary (2 Aug. 1860 - 21 May 1942)

Mrs. Mary Hanson died at her home in Abbotsford last Thursday, May 21, after being ill with a heart ailment two days. Funeral services were held at the Presbyterian church at Abbotsford Sunday afternoon, Rev. Geo. Griffith of Abbotsford and Rev. A. C. Riley of Colby officiating, and internment was made in the Dorchester cemetery. Pall bearers were Walter Jackson, Harry Emling, Harvey Bitters, Herman Feibig, Al Goldamer and John Lindberg. Two songs were sung by Mrs. A. J. Folstad and Miss Jessie Merrill, accompanied by Mrs. Berger. Flowers were carried by the American Legion Auxilliary and Royal Neighbors. The Charles F. Hanson American Legion Post of Dorchester attended in a body.

Mrs. Hanson was born in Varmland, Sweden, on August 2, 1860, thus reaching the age of 81 years, 9 months and 19 days. She came to the United States in 1880 and was married that year at Marseilles, Ill., to Jens Hanson. They came to Clark county in 1898 and engaged in farming. She was a member of the American Legion Auxilliary, the Home and Foreign Mission Society and the Royal Neighbors of America. She was a Gold Star mother, her son, Charles, having died in France in World War one. The Legion post at Dorchester is named after him.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Mable Berry of Colby, Wis., and Mrs. Jessie Braun of Abbotsford; two sisters, Mrs. O. A. Hanson of Minneapolis, Minn., and Mrs. John Olson of Austin, Minn.; one brother, Andrew Lydeen of Chisago City, Minn.
