Meyers, Henry #2 (1 JAN 1855 - 13 MAR 1940)

Henry Meyers, 85, prominent farmer of the Town of Green Grove (Clark Co., Wis.), died of old age complications yesterday morning at 10:15 o’clock at his home following a several months illness.

Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at two o’clock in St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Green Grove. The Rev. M.C. Goetsch will conduct the rites and interment will be made in the church cemetery.

Mr. Meyers was born Jan. 1, 1855 in New York State, and was married in Sheboygan Co. November 2, 1879, to Miss Caroline Plutte.

Shortly after their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Meyers came to the Town of Green Grove, Clark County, where they engaged in farming more than 60 years. Mr. Meyers was a carpenter by trade.

Surviving relatives are his wife, one son, Herbert Meyers of Green Grove; five daughters, Mrs. Otto Schulte, Town of Colby; Mrs. R.H. Sampe, Vincennes, Ind.; Mrs. Lillian Botterrud, Livingstone, Mont; Mrs. John Salter, Wis. Rapids; and Mrs. George Gebhart, Milwaukee; a brother, August Meyers, Elkhart Lake; a sister, Mrs. Herman Schuette, Howards Grove; 14 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Mr. Meyer was preceded in death by four daughters, Mrs. Ida Sommers in 1904, Miss Clara Meyers in 1913, Mrs. Bertha Sullivan and Mrs. Alma Kalk.

Mr. and Mrs. Meyers celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary last fall when all of their children were home.

Mr. Meyers was an elder at St. Paul’s Church and was also its honorary president. He was a member of the school board, and had held various town offices.
