Schloff, Ben (4 JAN 1882 - 17 MAY 1940)

After suffering an illness for 10 months, Ben Schloff, 58, former resident of Loyal, died at 9 P.M. Friday May 17th, in his home at Argyle.

The deceased was born in Stacyville, Iowa, Jan. 4, 1882, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Schloff. He was married to Mary Ginsterblum in Oct. 1908 at Stacyville. They farmed and moved to Loyal. In 1936 they moved to Bakerville near Marshfield, Wis. After 10 years on this farm they moved to their home in Argyle.

The deceased was a kind father and neighbor, he was always fond of little children. Several days before he died he wanted the picture of his grandson hung on the wall where he could see it all the time.. He was a faithful member of St. Joseph’s Catholic church.

Surviving are his wife, 3 sons Arthur, Beaver Dam, Albert at home, and Walter, Monroe; a daughter (Dorothy) Mrs. Werner Beer, Monroe; 2 grandchildren Truman Bernard Beer a year and a half and Mary Ella Schloff 5 months old daughter of Walter Schloff, nine sisters Kate Schloff, Stacyville, Wis.; Mrs. Elizabeth Winkels, Mrs. Henry Winkels, McIntire, Ia.; Mrs. Ross Gilechrist, Mrs. RotHungerford, Osage, Ia.; Mrs. James DeMuth, Milford, Ia.; Mrs. Ernest Estlick, Scranton, N. D.; Sister Mary Minrode St. Francis, Wis. All but the last three attended the funeral services.

Funeral services were held Monday morning at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church at Argyle the Rev. Father Joseph Willitzer (formerly of Bakerville) officiating. Burial was in Mt. Calvary cemetery.

Pall bearers were Alfred Matlup, Mickael Flanagan, Paul Splinter, Howard Shellenger, Kenneth Quinn and Joseph Hoffman. The later was a former Loyal resident also.

Out of town relatives attending the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. John Heus, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Nett, Sheboygan Falls, Mr. and Mrs. Mike Mauer, Will Heus and daughter Elrine, New Holstein, Mrs. Albert Ginsterblum, Plymouth, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Heimer and daughter Viola, Austin, Minn., Urban Winkels, Meyer, Ia., Henry Winkels, McIntire, Ia., Ross Gilchrist, Osage, Ia., Mrs. Fred Beer, Emanuel Stauffacher, Monroe, Wis., Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Riese, Monticello, Wis.
