Arthur Meyer

Arthur Meyer, 86, of Holcombe, former resident of Dorchester, Wis., died Friday, Oct. 19, 2007, at his residence.

Funeral services are 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 22, 2007, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Cornell with the Rev. Jeremiah Cashman officiating. Visitation is one hour prior to services Monday at the church.

Arthur was born the son of Edward and Anna (Geiger) Meyer Oct. 16, 1921, in Dorchester, Wis. He grew up in Dorchester and, after his service in the U.S. Army during World War II, returned to Dorchester, Wis.

Arthur married Marion Nelson on Jan. 28, 1947, in Rib Lake. He started as a self-employed logger and in 1954, with two of his brothers, started the Meyer Lumber Co. in Dorchester, Wis. Arthur managed the company until his retirement in 1977 when he and Marion moved to Holcombe.

He enjoyed fishing and hunting, gardening, spending time with his grandchildren and driving his little John Deere.

Survivors include his wife Marion; his children, Bruce (Karen) of Ogema, Duane (Jane) of Edgar, Marcia (Joey) Garcia of Springtown, Texas; a sister Evelyn (Jerry) Martin of Laona; three brothers, Clifford (Lydia) of Medford, Paul of Dorchester and Roy (Marilyn) of Dorchester; five grandchildren, Holly (Drew) Martin, Amy Meyer, Daniel (Cassie) Meyer, Kody Meyer and Joey Garcia, and three great-grandchildren, Braxton Meyer, Delaina Meyer and Avery Martin.

Arthur was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Alvin, Raymond and Ralph; and one sister, Leona Diers.

A memorial fund will be established by the family. Borton Funeral Home, Cornell, is in charge of arrangements.
