Schmidt, John A. (25 DEC 1871 - 30 NOV 1938)

John A. Schmidt died at his home at Thorp (Clark Co., Wis.) on Nov. 30th, 1938, of a stroke following an illness of four years, at the age of 66 years, 11 months and 5 days.

Mr. Schmidt was born at St. John, Wis., on Dec. 25, 1871. He was united in marriage to Minnie Broeren at Hollandtown, Wis. on Nov. 22, 1898, at which time he moved to Thorp, and has resided on a farm here ever since.

Surviving relatives who deeply regret his passing are his widow, three daughters, Sophie, Caroline and Evelyn, and two sons, William and Frank. One son, Norbert, preceded him in death at the age of 25 years on Jan. 25, 1936. Besides these he leaves three sisters, Mrs. Mike Weber and Mrs. George Kloepple of Hilbert, and Sophie Schmidt of Milwaukee, four brothers, Joseph and William of Sherwood, and Fred and George of Thorp.

Funeral services were held at St. Bernard’s Church, Monday at 9:30, Dec. 5th, Rev. A.M. Muckerheide officiating, burial taking place in St. Bernard’s Cemetery. Pallbearers were his four brothers, Joseph, William, Fred and George, and two nephews, Frank and Robert Broeren.

Out of town relatives attending the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Mike Weber, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Weber, George Kloepple and Mike Kloepple of Hilbert; Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Schmidt, William Schmidt and sons John and Joseph of Sherwood; Miss Sophie Schmidt and Gordon Lauer of Milwaukee; Arthur Schmidt of Becker, Minn.; Mrs. Frank Heiting of West Bend; Mrs. Matt Maehn of Stockbridge; Mrs. Victor Brantmier of Askeaton; Peter Benzschawel of Greeleaf; Mr. and Mrs. Ray Fletcher of Green Bay; John and Gilbert Broeren of Forest Junction; William Broeren of Kaukauna; Mr. and Mrs. L.A. Frueh of Augusta; Frank Bauer and Mr. and Mrs. John Mauer of Loyal; Mr. and Mrs. Leo Bauer and daughter, Lorena, of Abbotsford; Mr. and Mrs. Isadore Guns and son Albert and Tom Bloomers of Ladysmith; Mrs. A.J. Vandenberg and daughter Mary, and Mr. and Mrs. Harry Heiting of Stanley; and Mr. and Mrs. Jake Jansen of Boyd.
