Harley F. Svoma, age 76, of Jim Falls, WI, formerly long-time Stanley area resident, passed away peacefully on September 22, 2007 at the Dove Health Care Center, Eau Claire, WI.

Services were held on Wednesday, September 26, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at the Plombon Funeral Chapel, Stanley, WI with Pastor William Stewart officiating. Friends and family called from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. prior to service time on Wednesday. Plombon Funeral Service assisted the family with arrangements.

Harley was born April 26, 1931 in rural Cadott, WI, the son of Frank & Veletha (Swim) Svoma. He grew up in the Cadott and Stanley area, graduating from the Stanley High School in 1949. He then served his country in the U. S. Navy and was later united in marriage to Dorothy Slowiak on May 25, 1956 at St. Mary’s Czestochowa Catholic Church, rural Stanley, WI. They moved to Schiller Park, IL, residing there until 1970 when they returned to Thorp and purchased the Silver Dollar tavern & restaurant, operating that from 1972-1985. In 1987 they purchased Harley’s Supper Club in Stanley and operated that until their retirement in 2002 when they moved to Jim Falls, WI. Harley was an active member of the Thorp American Legion Post #118, the Thorp Moose Lodge and the Jim Falls Lions.

Harley is survived by his daughter Jodi (Jonah) Cash of Dublin, CA; four grandchildren: Cameron, Brianna, Jaymeson & Krystanna; sister-in-law, Katie LaSage of Stanley, WI; and brother and sister-in-law Ray & Yvonne Slowiak of Portage, WI.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Dorothy, in 2005; and one sister, Joan Simon, in 2004.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be given to the St. Joseph’s Home Hospice program at 2661 Cty Hwy 1 Chippewa Falls, WI 54729, or the American Cancer Society.
