Rasmussen, Jens (15 AUG 1892 - 2 MAY 1939)

Jens Rasmussen, 45, passed away at his home 3 ½ miles south of the city (Owen, Clark Co., Wis.) at 11:15 a.m. today when pneumonia which he contracted two days ago proved fatal to him.

Mr. Rasmussen had been ill the past week with the flu, however, he reported to work at Crane’s Elevator Monday morning, and upon returning home that evening again complained of being ill. He was given immediate medical treatment and his sickness was diagnosed as being pneumonia.

He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, one son by a former marriage, and two step-children. No definite funeral arrangements have been made as yet.

Funeral services were conducted March 5 from the Griebenow-Weirich Funeral Parlors for Jens Rasmussen, 46, who passed away at his home 3 ½ miles south of the city Wednesday, March 2, after being ill but a couple of days with pneumonia. Services were conducted by Rev. J. H. Rostad. Interment was made in the Riverside Cemetery.

Jens Rasmussen had been a native of this community since his arrival in America in 1908. He was born in Denmark on Aug. 15, 1892. When but 14 years of age he came to the United States and settled immediately at Withee, living with his brother, Christ, and attending the Withee High School. Later he found employment in the John S. Owen Lumber Co. Saw Mill, where he was employed until the mill closed. Since that time he has devoted his time to farming his farm 3 ½ miles south of this city.

On Sept. 1, 1913, he was united in marriage to his first wife, Lulu Viola Hilden, who passed Oct. 21, 1928. Three children were born to this union, two sons, Robert Cain and Murray Cain, both of Owen, and one daughter, Ruth Luraas of Withee. Later in life he was united in marriage to his second wife, Bessie J. Cain, on Feb. 6, 1930, one son, Willis, was born to this union.

Mr. Rasmussen was a kind, thoughtful and loving father to his family. He led a devoted Christian life, being confirmed in the Danish Church before coming to this country.

Pallbearers at the service Sunday were Phil Laube, Fred Stageman, Andrew Olson, Jess Bunderson Sr., Owen Melin and Wilmer Gilman.
