Plansky, JAMES "Jim" A. (November 9, 1947 - September 10, 2007)

James "Jim" Plansky of Thorp, WI, passed away on Monday, September 10, 2007, at home after a long and courageous battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease).

A visitation and prayer service was held at Thorp Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, September 14. Burial took place in the township of Butlerville cemetery in rural Thorp where Jim lived for many years. Thorp Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.

Jim was born in Chippewa Falls, WI, on November 9, 1947, along with his twin brother, John, to Richard and Margaret Plansky of Thorp, WI. He attended St. Bernard’s Catholic Elementary School in Thorp and graduated from Thorp High School in 1966. He worked for Thorp Finance Corporation for many years in Thorp and later for ITT in the Chippewa Falls/Eau Claire area. After ITT relocated, Jim returned to Thorp and worked for the City for a short period of time. He worked his last years at Northwestern Bank in Thorp. Jim also did many caretaking jobs for people in the area.

Jim had many interests, but especially like deer hunting, taking pictures of bears, fishing for sturgeon, catfish, walleyes, northern and pan fish. He enjoyed old train excursions. Jim was an avid Green Bay Packer fan and he collected Packer memorabilia.

Jim will be sadly missed by his sisters: Marylin Plansky of River Falls, WI and Paula (Ken) Andres of Bellingham, WA; his twin brother John of Thorp, WI; nephew David (Felicity) Plansky; and nieces: Kathy (Tom) O’Keefe, Karen (Ross) Goulette, and Marie Plansky, all of Hudson, WI; along with many additional relatives and friends.

Jim was preceded in death by his father, Richard W., mother, Margaret, and a brother Richard.

Jim was cared for at home by family members and Hope Hospice from Rib Lake, WI.

Expression of Thanks:

The family of Jim Plansky would like to express our appreciation for all of the community concern and support shown during Jim’s struggle with ALS. It was comforting to see so many of you at his funeral and later at the cemetery. Jim would have loved the gathering at Butler Town Hall afterwards, and was there with all of us in spirit. A special thanks to Lavonne Mason, Georgia Morrison, Shirley Biddle and to everyone who provided food for the lunch. Also, thank you to Jim Biddle for mowing the cemetery and Town Hall lawns for the funeral. We also greatly appreciate the special efforts of Dan and Ron at the Thorp Funeral Home as well as the service by Father Dennis, the hymns sung by Tammy Barth, and the assistance of the casket bearers.

Jim will be greatly missed by his family and many friends. We were privileged to have known and loved him. He showed remarkable courage to have fought this disease for eight years. Thank you also to Hope Hospice for such excellent care these past four years.

Twin brother - John Plansky

Sister - Marylin Plansky

Sister - Paula Andres
