Stock, Mr./Mrs. August (50th Anniv. - 8 May 1938)

Mr. and Mrs. August Stock, pioneer and well known residents of Colby who were married in Colby, May 8th, 1888, celebrated their golden wedding anniversary with a family gathering at their home Sunday.

Mr. Stock was born in Pomerania, Germany, May 2, 1858, and emigrated to America in 1883 with his parents who located at Waukesha. He was married to Miss Ottelia Kluve, by the Rev. J. E. Ott and they lived on a tract of land west of Colby. The couple succeeded in making an attractive farm out the virgin forest, and they lived there for 32 years before moving to Colby in 1916. Mrs. Stock was born March 22, 1869, in Prussia, Germany. In 1885 she came to America with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. August Kluve, and after living two years at Fond du Lac, the family moved to the town of Colby.

Mr. and Mrs. Stock have five children, Mrs. Hugo Frome and Mrs. Henry Reeves, Colby, Mrs. James Murray, Eau Claire, Otto Stock, of Loyal, and Edward Stock of town of Colby, seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. They are members of Zion Lutheran church.

Among those from out of town here for the celebration were Mr. and Mrs. Otto Stock, Mr. and Mrs. Julius Nystad of Loyal, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Schroeder of Spencer, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Stock and daughter, Lois of Abbotsford, Miss Helen Frome of Sheboygan and Mrs. James Murray and daughter, Marjorie, of Eau Claire.
