Spangler, Harvey D. (7 Jan. 1933 - 2 Sept. 2007)

SHERMAN, Texas -- Harvey D. Spangler, 74, of Sherman, Texas, passed away Sept. 2, 2007, at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas.

Interment will take place in the Neillsville City Cemetery with private graveside services. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 23, at the James Spangler home, three miles north of Neillsville, or three miles south of Christie on Highway 73.

He was born Jan. 7, 1933, in Loyal. He attended college at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, graduating in 1956 with a bachelor of science in chemical engineering and a commission with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. He served a portion of his military commitment in Korea. He married Luanne Schmidtke of Loyal, although they later were divorced.

He worked as an engineer in the refinery, ammonia and fertilizer areas in a number of locations, including New Jersey, Kansas, Iowa and even the Philippines with the Exxon Research & Engineering Company and later with Farmland Industries. He retired in 1991.

Survivors include his son, Allan Spangler of Oceanside, Calif.; and daughter, Karen (David) Waldron of Wooster, Ohio. Also surviving are brothers, Verlan (Lila) Spangler, James (Deon) Spangler, sisters, Irma (Chet) Johnson and Rita (Richard) Morehouse.
