Foster, Alvin C. (22 Aug. 1883 - 28 Mar. 1937)

Alvin C. Foster, a former prominent farmer of the town of Colby, Wisconsin, died Sunday at the age of 53 years at his home in Park Falls, coronary thrombosis being the cause of his departure to the distant shore. Mr. Foster had been ill for several weeks and had spent a week at the Park Falls hospital from which he returned last Thursday, apparently convalescing. Sunday morning at 4:00 o’clock, he was stricken with an attack that proved fatal. Mr. Foster was taken from Park Falls to the home of a daughter, Mrs. Harold Zimmer, at Marshfield. Funeral services were held Wednesday morning at St. Mary’s Catholic church at Colby, Rev. L. J. Lang officiating, and internment was made in the Colby cemetery. Pall bearers were Wm. Harry, Ed. Becker, Frank Beyerl, Louie Beyerl, Victor Frane and Frank Sterzinger.

The deceased was born in Colby, Aug. 22, 1883, and graduated from a rural school and the Colby, Wis. High school. He was engaged as a teacher in Dorchester and Neillsville schools for about nine years. In 1909 he was married at Colby to Miss Theresa Steinburg of Neillsville, Wis. They made their home at Colby where Mr. Foster was engaged in farming and the lumber business. For a time he was engaged in Northern Wisconsin as a log scaler for the Roddis Lumber and Veneer Co. Last year, Mr. and Mrs. Foster and children moved from their 160 acre farm west of Colby to Park Falls where they resided until the time of his death.

Mr. Foster was prominent in township, church and farm co-operative affairs. He served as school clerk, held office in the Farmer’s Equity, was speaker of the Catholic Order of Foresters and was a member of the Holy Name Society.

He is survived by his widow and the following children: Mrs. Harold Zimmer and Vernon Foster of Chicago, James Foster of Dorchester, Byron Foster of Colby, Matcella, Woodrow and Donald of Park Falls, and Gene, Kenneth, Diana, Mae, William, Gerald, Jane, Jack and Joyce at home. Also surviving are three grand children, two brothers, Elmore Foster of Merrill and Walter C. Foster of Milwaukee, and three sisters, Mrs. Jack Hobelsberger of Marshfield, Mrs. Patrick Reilly of Owen and Mrs. Joseph Will of Antigo. One sister, Mrs. Steve Price of Milan, preceded him in death three years ago.
