Umlauft, Joseph H. (12 Jan. 1874 - 16 Dec. 1936)

Joseph H. Umlauft, a former citizen of Colby, died after a lingering illness at Abbotsford last week Wednesday at the home of John Kadonsky. Funeral services were conducted at St. Bernard’s Catholic church at Abbotsford Saturday, Rev. J. J. Novak officiating, and internment was made in the Abbotsford cemetery. Five nephews and Bernard Heindle acted as pall bearers.

The deceased was born in Austria on Jan. 12, 1874, thus reaching the age of sixty-three years. He immigrated to the United States in 1882, settling at Dorchester, Wis. For a number of years he operated a lumber mill in the town of Holton, and for 18 years was employed as an engineer at the Colby box factory. He also spent five years as a millwright in Oregon.

He is survived by one son, Isadore Umlauft, Abbotsford; a sister, Mrs. John Kadonsky, Abbotsford, a brother, Rudolph Umlauft, Dorchester, Wis. An aunt, Mrs. Emelie Umlauft, Oshkosh, five nephews and four nieces also survive.
