Schmitt, Edward H. (15 July 1888 - 12 June 1936)

Edward H. Schmitt died at his home in the town of Hull Friday morning at the age of forty-eight years after being ill with dropsy of the heart for only ten days. Funeral services were held at St. Mary’s church Monday morning, Rev. L. J. Lang officiating, and internment was made in the Colby cemetery. Pall bearers were Frank, Leonard and Norbert Schraufnagel, Joseph Kunze and Bernard and Frank Apfelbeck. Those in charge of flowers were Agnes, Maud, Genevieve, Niome and Rita Schmitt and Marie Kaiser.

The deceased was born in the town of Hull on July 15th, 1888, and was married to Anna Ewan, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Ewan at Athens, Wis., on June 19th, 1917. He was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters and for twelve years was foreman of a bridge crew.

He is survived by his wife and ten children, namely - Vincent, Victor, Bernard, Richard, Alexander, Marcella, Elma, Clarence, Winifred and Floyd, all at home. One daughter, Antoinette, preceded him in death five years ago. The following brothers and sisters also survive: John Schmitt of Milton, Oregon, Peter Schmitt of St. Paul, Minn., Frank Schmitt of Abbotsford, Robert Schmitt of Colby, A. J. Schmitt of Colby, Mrs. Mary Harbig of Marshfield, Mrs. Clara Kaiser of Stratford and Miss Susie Schmitt of Chicago.

Out of town people here for the funeral were Miss Genevieve Schmitt of St. Paul, Miss Emma Ewan of Milwaukee, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Vietenihans and children, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Gierl, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Gierl, Mr. and Mrs. Mike Scheizek, Frank Albrecht and son, Joseph, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Lehman, all of Athens, Mr. and Mrs. Ed. Haebig and Mr. and Mrs. Alphonse Haebig of Marshfield, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Kaiser and children, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Kirsch, Math Kaiser, Frank Kaiser and Joe Steiner, all of Stratford, and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Gierl of Abbotsford, Wis.

The deceased was an industrious worker, a good Christian and his untimely death will be missed by neighbors and friends as well as by members of his family.
