Bentz, Friedericka (4 Aug. 1848 - 6 May 1936)

Funeral services for Mrs. Friedericka Bentz, whose death was chronicled last week, were held Sunday afternoon at Zion Lutheran church, Rev. O. Hoffmann officiating, and internment was made in the Colby cemetery. Pall bearers were Julius Kobs, Aug. Stock, Charles Feind, Louis Winkle, Henry Frome and Louis Frome.

The deceased was born in Yatznick, Germany, August 4th, 1848, and died May 6th, after an illness of two days, a paralytic stroke being the cause of her departure to the heavenly goal. She reached the age of eighty-seven years, nine months and two days. She was married to Carl Bentz in Germany on May 1st, 1875, and they came to the United States in 1880 and lived in Milwaukee until 1886 when they came to the town of Colby, thus living here for fifty years. Mr. Bentz died in 1926 since which time she made her home with her children. She is survived by four children, namely: Robert Bentz of Colby, Ed. Bentz of Colby, Mrs. Wm. A. Tesmer of Colby and Charlie Bentz whose address is unknown. She is also survived by three grand children and one sister and one brother in Germany. One daughter, Mrs. Reinhold Strassburg, died March 12, 1936.

Out of town people here for the funeral services were Mr. and Mrs. Ferd. Kurtz and children of Horicon and Reinhold Strassburg of Marion.

Like all our early settlers, Mrs. Bentz was of a hospitable disposition and none ever entered her home without a warm welcome nor left without feeling the warmth of a genuine hospitality, so characteristic of the people of her ancestry. Old age did not diminish her unselfish solicitude for her friends and loved ones. Adhering to the faith of her fathers, she united with the Lutheran church early in life and loved to attend its services when health permitted.
