Wegner, Mary Victoria (July 26, 1905 - August 1, 2007)

Mary V. Wegner, age 102, of Withee, died at Skiff Memorial Hospital in Newton, Iowa on Wednesday, August 1, 2007.

Funeral Services were held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 4, 2007 at St. Bernard-St. Hedwig Catholic Church in Thorp. Fr. Keith Apfelbeck officiated and burial followed in Old St. Hedwig’s Catholic Cemetery. Visitation was held at the church on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until time of service.

Mary Victoria Jarocki was born on July 26, 1905, in rural Thorp, to Alexander and Helen (Gwarowski) Jarocki. She was raised and received her education in the Town of Withee. Mary was united in marriage to John A. Wegner in June of 1927. They lived, farmed and raised their family in the Town of Withee. Her husband John died on July 12, 1984. Mary continued to reside in the Thorp area until moving to Newton, Iowa in 1993 to be near her son, Ed. In 2000, Mary entered Nelson Manor Care Center in Newton, Iowa and resided there until her death.

She was a former and very active member of St. Hedwig’s Catholic Church in Thorp and its Sacred Heart Society.

Mary will be sadly missed by her son, Ed (Elizabeth) Wegner of Newton, Iowa; two grandchildren; and two great-grand-children.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John; two daughters: Gertrude Wegner, in infancy and Vivian Malecki; one son, Vernon Wegner; three sisters: May, Hattie, and Pauline; and three brothers: Bruno, Ed, and John.

Thorp funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
