Tepoorten, Steve (9 Apr. 1863 - 2 June 1934)

Steve Tepoorten, one of the early pioneers of this section, passed away at his home in the town of Colby Saturday at 7:30, apoplexy being the cause of his departure to the distant shore. He had been ill for three years following a stroke. Funeral services were held at St. Mary’s Catholic church Tuesday at 9:00 A.M., Rev. Leo Lang officiating, and internment was made in the Colby cemetery. The pall bearers were Matt and John Allar, Matt Engeldinger, Charles Kesler, Victor Frane and Theodore Steinwand.

The deceased was born in Manitowoc county, April 9, 1863, thus reaching the age of seventy-one years, and had made his home in this vicinity for forty-five years. He was married at Colby on April 14th, 1890, to Catherine Schaller who survives him with two daughters, Mrs. John Frinak of Colby and Mrs. Henry Vanderyacht of Menasha. Other survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Joseph Schwartz of Henderson, Minn., and Mrs. Fred Rumph of Sheboygan, and three brothers, Joseph of Sheboygan, Matthew of St. Nazians and John of Manitowoc.

The deceased was a good Christian, and, like all our old pioneers, a man who united sound sense with strong convictions. Although a man of generous impulses, he was of a quiet disposition. He had filled the various relations of life as son, husband, father, brother, friend and filled them well. He was a member of the Germania lodge.

The out of town people here for the funeral were Viola Friday of Hopkins, Minn., Mrs. Joe Schwartz of Henderson, Minn., Joe Tepoorten of Sheboygan, Mr. and Mrs. John Tepoorten and Mr. and Mrs. George Tepoorten of Manitowoc, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Vanderyacht of Menasha, Mrs. Joe Schavet and Mrs. Ed. Becker of Appleton, Mrs. George Egan, Mrs. Albert Leidtke and John Muthig of Kaukauna, Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Frinak of Stanley, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Hein of Stratford and Mrs. Irvin Schimke of New London.
