Knebel, John #2 (2 Mar. 1884 - 8 Sept. 1933)

John Knebel passed away Friday, September 8, 1933, heart trouble and dropsy of three years and four months duration being the cause of his departure to the distant shore. Funeral services were held Monday at the Colby M. E. church, Rev. S. E. Bushendorf officiating, and internment was made in the Colby cemetery. The pall bearers were Angus Lamont, William Wilde, Emil Pokallus, William Roth, Oscar Dix and Emil Loos. The flower girls were Deloris Westburg, Bernice Van Sleet, Margaret Wilkening, Geraldine Marx, Anita Laabs, Alice Mallak, Pearl Cody and Catherine Lamont.

The deceased was born in Colby, Wisconsin, March 2, 1884, thus reaching the age of forty-nine years, six months and six days. He was married to Miss Antoinette Vopalensky in Boscobel, Wisconsin, on June 14, 1909. Most of Mr. Knebel’s life was spent in this vicinity. At the age of twenty-one he went to Mendota where he was employed as fireman. Here he met and later married Miss Antoinette Vopalensky of Boscobel. After their marriage they came to reside at Colby where he was employed at the Dix Meat Market. The five years preceding his recent illness were spent working for the Morris Martin & Dalvin Construction Co. For the past four months he has been an invalid at his home. He is survived by his wife and three daughters, Marcella and Mary at home and Lillian of Chippewa Falls, Wis. Also one brother and two sisters - George Knebel of Owen, Mrs. Arthur Olson of St. Paul and Mrs. Chas. Bassett of St. Paul. Mr. Knebel was a diligent worker, a kind and loving husband and father, a good neighbor and respected by all who knew him.

The out of town people here for the funeral services were Mr. and Mrs. George Knebel of Owen, Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Downing of Owen, Mrs. Arthur Olson and daughter, Marie, and son, Leo, of St. Paul, Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Bassett and daughter, Catherine, of St. Paul, Mrs. Alice Ward of Milwaukee, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Vopalensky and son, John, of Boscobel, Wis.
