Baures, Margaret Laura (June 11, 1921 - May 28, 2007)

Margaret L. Baures, age 85, of Thorp, died at Our Lady of Victory Hospital, on Monday, May 28, 2007.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 31, 2007 at St. Bernard-St. Hedwig Catholic Church in Thorp, Wisconsin,. Fr. Keith Apfelbeck will officiate and burial will follow in St. Bernard’s Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Brandon Baures, Bronson Baures, Joseph Baures, Shane Baures, Jon Baures, Dan Nowobielski, Brian Frank and Michael Frank. Honorary pallbearers will be Nate Baures and Penn Rawn. Visitation will be held at Thorp Funeral Home on Wednesday, May 30, 2007 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., with a 6:00 p.m. Rosary service, and at church, on Thursday, from 9:30 a.m. until time of service.

Margaret Laura Beckman was born on June 11, 1921 in Thorp, WI to Otto and Mary (Pingel) Beckman. She received her education in the Thorp area, graduating from Thorp High School in 1939. Margaret married Edward Baures on June 18, 1949 at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Thorp. They began their married life farming in Thorp on a farm south of town. In 1951, they moved to Sheboygan for three years. Because of the Kohler strike, they returned to Thorp and bought a farm in the Town of Reseburg, where they farmed until 1974. They then moved to the City of Thorp in 1977. In 2003, Margaret sold her home and moved to Morgan Plaza. She spent her last months at Oakbrook Health & Rehab. She was a member of St. Bernard-St. Hedwig Catholic Church and its PCCW, the Thorp American Legion Auxiliary, the Knights of Columbus Auxiliary, and worked as a volunteer at the Senior Citizen Center.

Margaret was an avid quilter. Hundreds of quilts and wall hangings were given to her children and grandchildren. She also donated quilts to churches and veterans. When her grandchildren were younger she made many stuffed animals and doll babies for them.

She is survived by five sons: Jim (Terese) Baures of Thorp, Don (Deb) Baures of Thorp, Len (Sharon) Baures of Greenwood, Nick (Julie) Baures of Caledonia, WI, and Dean (Vicky) Baures of Eau Claire; three daughters: Audrey (Bob) Nowobielski of Thorp, Roseann (Tom) Frank of Marshfield and Linda Rawn of Havre, MT; 26 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; one brother, Lawrence (Eleanore) Beckman of Milwaukee; three sisters: Hilda Ricci of Boston, MA, Lena Drinkwine of Mondovi, WI and Susan Beckman of Thorp.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edward, on October 15, 1989; one son, Fr. Steven Baures on February 4, 2006; one brother, Arnold Beckman; and two sisters: Meta Butterfield and Irene Wehrmann.
