Marlowe, Louis G. (12 MAY 1891 - 27 OCT 1935)

Dorchester friends were saddened to learn of the sudden death of Louis Marlowe who passed away at his home at Gratiot early Sunday morning from heart trouble. Mr. Marlowe had been in ill health for some time, yet the past few weeks he had been much improved in health and his death came as a sudden shock to his many friends and relatives.

Funeral services were held at Gratiot Monday afternoon and the remains were brought to Dorchester (Clark Co., Wis.) where services were held Wednesday morning at 10 o’clock from the Peace Evangelical Church with the Rev. J.R. Kalwitz officiating. Interment took place in the Peace Cemetery with his brothers-in-law, Walter Malchow, Seth Barker, Henry W. Rau, Henry and William Malchow and Arthur Premeau acting as pallbearers.. His nieces acted as flower girls.

Louis G. Marlowe was born in Dorchester May 12, 1891, the son of Gilbert and Josephine (Le Claire) Marlowe and was 44 years, 5 months and 25 days old at time of death. He grew to young manhood at Dorchester and on Feb. 26, 1919, he was united in marriage to Miss Alvina Malchow, also of Dorchester, Wis. One son, who died in infancy, was born to them.

Mr. Marlowe engaged in the cheese making industry and was employed at several factories in this vicinity. Mr. Marlowe formerly owned and operated what is now known as the Lawrie factory two miles north of the village for several years. From here they moved to Colby where they operated the Green Grove Factory until 1928. In 1929 the Marlowes purchased the cheese factory at Gratiot, which they have operated ever since. Due to ill health Mr. Marlowe retired from actual work last December.

Having spent the greater share of his life here, Louis was well known and liked by everyone in this vicinity. Not only will his wife and immediate relatives miss his kind thoughtfulness and cheery disposition but his many friends as well will miss his genial personality. We join the vast host of friends in offering to his widow and members of his family our deepest sympathy in their loss.

Besides his wife, Mr. Marlowe leaves three sisters, Mrs. James McDonald, Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, Mrs. James McKennan, Spokane, Wash., and Mrs. Arthur Premeau, Westboro. One brother, Gilbert, passed away about four years ago.
